CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR THE FUTURE DESIGN OF THE SAN JOSEPE QUARRY AREA AND ITS SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT IN ARRASATE (ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC RECOVERY)
Introduction to the competition.
The San Josepe Quarry, located in the Municipality of Arrasate in an area very close to the urban network, has been used for stone mining for over 50 years. As a result, the interior space of the quarry occupies a volume of 1,200,000 m³ or more (one million two hundred thousand cubic metres).
Activity in the Quarry is due to be closed down permanently very soon (restoration is being carried out at present and the stone from the Kurtze-Txiki tunnel/Eibar-Gasteiz Motorway is being used), and the view of the huge interior of the quarry is of high impact, both visually and from the perspective of the potential environmental recovery and occupation of the space for new uses.
Arrasate Town Council promotes this Call for Proposals with the aim of selecting the idea which, as a result of its architectural, landscaping and environmental quality, its technical and financial feasibility and its compatibility with the environment, is selected by the Jury as being the most suitable idea to be implemented at the San Josepe Quarry, in accordance with these Regulations.
